Paisley R.I.P.

Gone in 48 hours

This picture was taken one day before this story took place.

This has been a year now since we lost our very beloved Paisley, our 115lbs Male Borzoi.
He was doing quite well, I had just told him I thought he had another 4-5 years left in him.
Then on June 18 he was feeling lethargic
for no apparent reason, I thought perhaps from the heat, however the next morning he had blood in the whites of his eyes.. a bleeding aneurysm.
We spent the next day being together at one of his favorite places near the Saint Vrain river where he managed to lay in the water, one of his favorite things to do, then laid in the nearby tall grass.
Then onto Wendy's for some frosty and hamburgers.
He passed on at 1:35 am on June 20, 2013.
- Aged 9 1/2 Years -

Aleera and I have been crushed ever since.

The Tale of Many Tails

Thoughts about life with my Borzoi over the past many years.

***
 R.I.P. to all of my furry kids that have gone before me:
Brutus & Babe (Collie mix) from 6 weeks to brother 9yo & sister 2yo
 Brody (Borzoi) from 7 to 10yo
Kos (Borzoi) from 9 to 10yo {brother to Brody}
Trina (Borzoi) from 5 to 12yo {niece to Brody and Kos}
Rose (Borzoi) from 3.5 to 4.5yo {sister to Paisley}
And many other dogs & cats I've taken in and care for that were and will always be a part of me.
***

 I am now up to six Borzoi rescues,
two of whom are currently curled up next to me on my bed as I write this tale (tail?).

And in the beginning...
The first two were welcomed into my life at a time when
I was loosing my 13yo Collie (Cody) and had
just lost my 13 yo Belgium Tervuren (Girl).
[Cody]
[Girl]

They were an uncle (Brody 7yo) and niece (Trina 5yo) that had been kept in
a 4' x 4' cage for a year and never let out !!!
They adapted right away to living with me as royalty as they should be.
About two years after joining forces with these two I was told that Brody's brother Kos was found at the Phoenix dog pound by the local Borzoi rescue who sprung him from jail and took him to Albuquerque where we brought him home to Boulder, Co.

[Trina]
 [Brody]
 [Kos, Trina & Brody]
Kos died two weeks before Brody.

About six months before losing Trina in January, I adopted Paisley (boy 1.5yo) who is next to me as I type this, now 8yo, then Aleera (bugging me to go for a walk at the moment) in April at 1.5yo from a rescue in Durango, Co. who had found her in the wild around the four corners area with her sister and brother,
she is now 7yo.
[Paisley]
Gee dad, can I clown it up ?

[Aleera laying, Paisley standing]

Then came Rose.
Rose, as we found out shortly after arriving, in an exceedingly filthy van from Texas, had heart worms. So the lengthy and quite painful six month process of shots and rest began.
One month after being cleared of the heart worms she came down with epilepsy and passed 4 months later.
[Rose]
Yep, I had to tie her leash off in order to get far enough away to take the pictures otherwise she was stuck to me like bubble gum on a shoe.
A total lover !

More about their individual stories later.
